Has anyone tried this yet?
the website is at
http://www.hoccer.com/adpipe/developers.html
...it claims to pay you for advertising their banner on your software that you create... It sounds quite good, but Before I go out of my way to alter my programs to handle their OCX, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with them..

Hi
I've taken a look at their product and must say that 'it seems to good to be true' but ...
1. By including this OCX in your application you immediately require a user of your application to have a constant connection to the Internet. This is all very well when you live in a country with free-phone calls, but in the UK - I wouldn't even try a product with this feature.
2. Do you know what kind of adverts are going to be displayed in your application ? XXX Porn sites or similar popping up in your application wouldn't be a great thing for your program (unless it's a *special* app ;-)).

haha..that is very true...not just uk, but also australia where you are charged 25c everytime u wish to log onto the net... but then again, thats can be fixed where if you can have something to detect if you ont he net, if your not, then the ad will just display a set of gifs that advertise other products and or your own products that ofcourse give you no money (unless you advertising for yourself)... And when it detects a net connection, it will switch the ad to adpipe.
As for the porno :).. hehe... i dont plan on making any program that deal with that anytime soon... but the adpipe people do say that you can choose which types of ads to display, which is very handy i suppose if you are making a program for kids or something.
as soon as they reply to my application, ill let yas know how it turns out, and if indeed, they actually pay me or not.

Just thought I'd let yas know of the email i recieved when i finally got accepted (3 days)
Here goes (XXXX) --> is the numebr i recieved
Welcome aboard! You're software and Web site have been review by our
staff, and we're happy to welcome you as an AdPipe developer.
Your Developer ID number, which should be set as a property of the AdPipe
control during design time, is XXXX. Currently this ID is only equipped
with the default advertisements, but it will be updated in the next day ortwo.
Near the end of every month, you will receive, via email, a report on your
user's clicks. If the amount you have earned totals over $50, you will
then receive a check in the mail at the address you previously specified.
Note that earnings will ignore clicks originating from IPs that we can
trace back to you, the developer, so feel free to try a few test clicks,
but don't expect to see these on your monthly report.
When you have finished testing AdPipe with your products, and are ready to
release AdPipe-enabled versions, please let me know the exact names of the
programs and a URL at which they can be downloaded. If you would like,
these programs can be listed in an upcoming section of our web site,
highlighting our developer's products.
As a new service to developers, if at any time you would like to place a
banner ad into your own software, simply mail it to me at this address, and
we will route it into your programs for free. We recommend you use this to
let your users know that a patch or new version of a program is available.
Use of this privilege will be restricted to once per month.
Developers can also advertise accross our entire network for the rate of
$20 (versus the standard rate of $50) per 1,000 impressions. If you are
interested in this service, send your 468x60 banner in a major format
(GIF/JPG), and the number of impressions you would like to purchase to this
address.
If you have any questions, problems, or comments, feel free to contact me

So that means that your customers are still having to look at a load of adverts even when not connected to the internet - does the program still remember the number of clicks on those adverts when a client isn't connected/doesn't have a connection and you still get paid for them ? (I didn't think so....) or is it just free advertising for ADPipe Advertisers and a PITB for your (net-less) customers ?
(maybe you should give the customers without a net connection some XXX adverts ;-))
Just a thought

hahah....just another of the added bonuses right :)? well... i think i have figured out how to overcome that ... but im still testing my code right now...
1) have something to detect a net connection
2) if true, adpipe ad appears and form reshapes to accomodate.
3) if not, form is normal with no ads :)
4) if net connection is detected, goto 2
real simple... but have major problems.... one of them is the fact that their ocx is very unstable in design time,... i stall every 10 mins :(

Hi
If you want to see whether you have an Internet connection available on the machine, Karl E Peterson has an excellent example at :
http://www.mvps.org/vb/index2.html?samples.htm
- look for the NetConnect.Zip sample

actually...this may proove to be an answer to the solution right here..
Joe,At the current time, we do not have an online method for developers to check
their statistics. We are working on this, and hope to have a fully functional
Web page, where developers can find their information, up and running in about
a month.
When a user is not connected to the Internet, AdPipe reads information from
previously received ads that are cached on their system. If there are no
cached ads available, the control resorts to displaying a default ad, which
tells explains to the user that they will receive new ads next time they
connect to the Internet. Please let me know if you have any further questions,
