Searching thru C

Can somebody please tell me the code for making C search thru the hardrive and return a value when it has found the, file the user wanted?
(IE):the user inputs the file name and/or the extension and th program searches the hardrive and returns a 'yes' or 'no' value i dont know how to make the program search the hardrive.
Can somebody please help me by giving the code for this function. Or if you have any other method of doing it I'll be more than oblidged to hear it.
