I really want to become a devoted and serious game programmer because I think there is lot of wisdom that can be learn from this type of programming. My girlfriend just left me and I am all alone, so nothing can disturb me anymore :-) My present knowledge is on C/C++/MFC/CORBA/Assembler/Java. I need to talk to whoever developed the games like TombRaider and other Virtual 3D games.

Without a girlfriend there's nothing which can stop you becoming a real guru ;-)
You can find a lot of information on flipcode.com and gamedev.net, and you can meet real professionals there.
Happy coding,
Chris

Thank you for all your advises. Ummm....I think there's a little problem now. Ummm...I just knew this nice girl and we talk on the phone for so long hours or so..she sounds nice and the prob is I'm beginning to like her! I'm starting to feel that she will become a hindrance to the path of my GuruHood...which I'm about to take courageosly. Shall I give her some allocation in my thoughts or not? I know this sounds nonsense, but I'm really serious of this.....and this will greatly affect me. I'm really serious to take the path of Guruhood. If there is anybody out there who was able to switch modes thru allocation and deallocation of romantic type thoughts and still was able to achieve the path of Guruhood....then let me know so that I'll know it's POSSIBLE!!! Otherwise, I am facing a great dilemma. Again...I'm serious.

I have given up a lot of coding in favour of my girlfriend and i don't regret it. And i think having a good social life will make you a better person than sitting in front of your computer all day and night.
Besides i know a lot of gurus who are married :)

You should try to balance the time spent on her and yourself. Weigh your priorities and allocate appropriately. Maybe you will spend more time with her in the beginning but as time goes by, you should be able to balance out your time.

Man, my gf *****es at me all the time for sitting in front of the dummy box too long programming my games, but I don't know what I would do without her sometimes. You NEED love in your life .. along with code. :)
Hey, I'm also a game programmer and can go hours on end after I get home from work writing more code for my programs. I mainly use DirectX so you should focus on learning that. A lot of times my gf will be laying on the couch falling asleep at 2am while I'm busy coding away, then when I finally fix that darn bug at 4am that got me all day, I shutdown the computer and pick her up off the couch and take her to bed. ;)

Hey again, pal!
I believe u're a professional shareware programmer, and thus u've much more views and experience than me. :-D
As you can see, with the arrival of Windows XP, the Windows OS itself has encapsulated and "suck" the features of some shareware programs, as in the cool Windows Media Player 8 VS. RealPlayer.(shareware program)
As you can see, Media Player is included on the MS OS, and I believe in time, MS will "suck" more and more shareware features and "plug" it into their future new OS versions, and only some fields like Office suites and database and cashbook programs ain't affected, whereas others like those Shell customizing tools, system ultilities and multimedia programs will be badly affected. My question is : Do u know if these affected shareware companies can still survive? Will people pay for something that is already provided by free on their OSes? Thanks!
