If use mapi controls on my application, do I have to open Outlook or outloook express in order to work?

Worth looking up something called "CDO (Collaboration Data Objects)" if your application is on NT server. To see if you have it, check to see if you have "Microsoft CDO ...." in your Project References in VB.
