Programming for PDA: VB(.NET) or C#?

Hi there,

I want to program for PDA & dekstop, mainly PDA, in one IDE, which might be MobileVB from AppForge (www.appforge.com). Now, the question is: what language to use? I do have a little experience with Delphi, but now I have to choose between VB6, VB.NET and C#. I want to make database-driven solutions, e.g. an app that enables students to subscribe for trainings, classes etc. (just as a start). Many students should be able to access the database at the same time, if necessary.

As I am a clinician, I do not have much time left for this, however: I want to do it right. What language should I choose, do you think: VB6, VB.NET or C#? Is there much benefit in learning C# for this? Does it take that much extra time?

(I do not want to develop games or such a thing, this is only meant for database solutions, possibly wireless as well).

Does your PDA have FrameWork ? if not, it won't be running any .NET language ...

I understand what you mean... Currently, the new PPC OS will be Pocket PC.Net, and Palm might include it in its OS6 (future). So nowadays: no framework. But for now it depends more on AppForge, the rest might be interesting for the future...

I'd be very grateful if you could help me decide between VB.NET and C#? (I guess VB6 will be a little outdated, and when you still have to start investing, it's better to go for the .net environment, or am I wrong?)

well if c# catches on then it will become the thing to know, MS is really pushing it, they've already made it compatable with the MAC OS and they probably won't do the same with the other languages because they want "everyone" to program in c# ... however programmers are a bread of their own, stuborn and c# may never take off. I suggest Learn vb.NET and play with c# ... they are similar enough that you might become good at both :-)

Thanks, AppForge says about the same... I think I'll start with VB or VB.NET, and possibly upgrade afterwards. Thanks a lot!
