I tried to open new asp.net web application and got the following message: "Unable to create web project 'xxx'.The UNC share does not exist or you do not have access". I tried to use different file share path or FP extensions but nothig worked.
IIS Server is installed on the server of my net and not on my computer , could it be the cause of the error?.
can anybody help?
I don't understand even the error message!!!!!

I'm in the same boat. I have XP Home Ed on my laptop so IIS is not avialable. I tried to start a web app on my hosted server that has all the .NET and IIS as well as Front Page Extenesions installed. I did get a little further than you though. I changed the preferences to use FP extensions to open the project. It allowed me to navigate to the http address of my site , logon and view the contents. I could go no further however becaus the "OK" button was not enabled (grayed out). Perhaps it's because the laptop doesn't have IIS. All the documentation seems to assume that you are using IIS on the develpopment machine. I will try installing visual studio on another machine that has IIS and let you know. Assuming we don't hear from a guru before then. If that works then I guess I'll have to upgrade the laptop to XP Pro to get the IIS going.

Nice to hear that I'm not the only one facing the same problem. I'm trying to get IIS Server for my computer.
Keep in touch.

I found this article on the .net help files:
ms-help://MS.VSCC/MS.MSDNVS/vbcon/html/vbconWebApplicationSecurityAtDesignTimeInVisualStudio.htm
I hope it will help you.

I tried the link you provided but it did not work. I would think that this is a vary basic issue that should have been addressed in the documentation at the start. Oh well, when trying the link you gave I stumbled upon the tech support option. You will be happy to know that for a mere $245 Microsoft will take a phone call on this issue. Perhaps if we could find 200 or so other people with this same problem we could pool or resources to obtain what just about every other software vendor provides for free. Microsoft's position of course is that it doesn't have the time for actual support. Even by email. I mean, if they did that they would have to hire people to answer questions. Just one of the advantages to elliminating all competitors. I will advise if I get a solution. Good Luck.
