We use Dialup networking to communicate to another system that we sometimes receive a 727 error on dialup networking, that the modem is not functioning correctly.

We got a null modem INF file and modified the name, so we can be sure we access the proper modem, so there is no modem to fail. When we check Control Panel/System/Device Manager, the modem does not show an error. Removing and re-installing the modem will usually make the error go away for a time. Some systems seem to have the error occur much more often than others.

Please note that with Windows XP this error is 777, rather than 727. The software has never had a problem with Windows 95/98, and has been used extensively, so if there were problems, we should have seen the problems.

If you know where we can get a new null modem INF file, maybe our file is just too old, being something like 5 years old. Otherwise, some way to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, my user gave me the wrong error. Windows 2000 comes up with error 797:

Error 797: The connection failed because the modem or other connecting device failed. Please make sure that the modem or other connecting device is installed.

The modem shows that it is OK in Device Manager, so I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
