Notepad -max: size limit

Hi all,

What is the maximum size I can copy to a notepad.When I was writing some data(6GB) to the notepad,the size went up to 4 Gb & then went down to "0" size & the filesize at the end was 2Gb.The operating system was Linux.

Could any one explain this behaviour..

what do you mean by "a notepad" ? Notepad as in wordpad ? But I guess not, since you are talking about linux.

Its of type "Text File " under Linux.
