I'm looking for a Package manager that works on linux SUSE 8.1 as well as Solaris 8.
I have looked at RPM. However RPM 4.0.3 seems to need the Berkely free database. I would however like to have as few dependencies on other products as possible, even freeware. RPM 4.0.2 seems not to depend on the Berkely database, but is described as avaliable for Solais 7.
The standard Solaris package manager with pkgadd etc does not seem to be avaliable on Linux.
So my questions are;
1. Can RPM 4.0.2 run on Solaris 8?
2. Is the Solaris package manager avaliable on Linux SUSE 8.1?
3. Is there any other package manager I should consider?
Thanks,
Villemos.
