I am relatively new to network programming and have begun to understand the basics, however I am conducting a project which consists of making a program that uses 802.11b wireless to connect the network and I have no idea of the differences in programming wireless compared to wired or how to start programming wirelessly.
Could anybody please give me some advice or show me where I could find such advice.

The network functions used in wireless and in wire are the same (e.g. select, sendto, recv). The difference is in the packets structure.
Are you writing a driver for wireless?

No im making a program that sends and receives data wirelessly. A simple server - client program. Do I have to change anything to do with the ports I use?

Let's getting something clear.
In which network layer are you sending data? If it is the 3rd layer and above, you shouldnt care about wireless. The wireless is the 1st and 2nd network layer.
The only thing you should wrry about is to setup a topology of connecting 2 computers using AP and PCMCIA cards.
I guess that doesn't solve all your problems, so give me some more details about your project...

OK. Define your problem again because I don't see one :)
