Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras..... Due to lots of Polish immigrants in Detroit, it is often called Paczki day here. ely_g February 8th, 2005, 06:54 AM True, this is the last Carnival Day!!! Wow, I am Polish, I know what does "paczki" mean, but have no idea why they call it Paczki Day... And in Poland Fat(Shrove?) No parades, carnivals..just jelly doughnuts. Mick February 8th, 2005, 07:17 AM Paczkis are the Jelly Doughnuts that they serve here on Fat Tuesday. That's Detroit for you. In Poland we have Pączki day in thursday (last week). We call it "tłusty czwartek" :) which can be directly translated to "fat thursday". In that day we used to eat a lot of friedcakes (pączki :) ). Today is "śledzik" day. Time to drink vodka and eat "śledzika" :D (snack from herring fish) and to have last dance (in Carnival).... Best regards, Krzemo. Mick February 8th, 2005, 07:24 AM Time to drink vodka and eat "śledzika" :D (snack from herring fish) I love polish people... :p Hobson February 8th, 2005, 07:59 AM Ahh now i got it paczki <=> pączki - look similar, meaning totally different.
