Can We Identify whether COM Port Device is Working or Not Using API's

Hello,

I want to get the status of the COM Port Device using the API's. I want to get the status message present the Device Manager Tab of the System for the respective COM Port. Basing on this I can justify whether the COM Port Device is working or not.

I have another alternate solution to justify whether the COM Port is working or not. I was using the Microsoft Communication control to know the Port can be opened or not.. I could achieve this .. But now I want to get the solution without using the Control.

Is it possible using API's

Please let me know how can we achieve this problem.
