Free web server?

I am developing server applications and am looking for a site that I can run my server applications on and which would allow client application access. These are not commercial apps so I would like to find a free site or low cost. TIA.

Download apache and run it on your own workstation.

I am not actually looking for server software but an actually hosting site that will allow me to run my own server applications on the internet( eg realtime chat or stock portfolio). My "workstation" consists of a win98 w/non-continous dialup modem. Is there a way to use that to run apache and allow clients to connect to it via the internet? Sorry if this is newbie-sounding. TIA.
