Hai,

I have installed oracle 8i and enterprise manager on a Windows server 2003 machine. Just after

installation i could connect to sql *plus and enterprise manager - schema manager as system/manager. But when i

tried to connect to the same after a system reboot, i am getting an error message as follows

"Oracle not available"

i checked the controlPanel -> services entries. There the status of OracleServiceORACLE8I

service was 'starting' and not 'started'.

What could be the problem? Is Oracle 8i compatible with windows server 2003.

Many thanks in advance.

bye,

roshni

Hi Roshni,

Glad to see you again.

So, what happened yesterday?
Was my answer helpful or not?
Did you ping and tnsping the server?
Do you know if the listener gets started or not on the server?
Is today's problem the same as that of yesterday,
or did you manage to make progress since yesterday?

Is Oracle 8i compatible with windows server 2003.

Is it a joke? Of course Oracle 8i can run on Windows Server 2003.

OracleServiceORACLE8I service was 'starting' and not 'started'

There are many possible reasons why a service doesn't start. This is a very wide subject. Can you get assistance from a person who knows Windows services? Do you know how to read Windows' log files?

What could be the problem?

There can be many causes. Do you know that on the website of Oracle, there are many questions answered about installation problems? Have you read them? Have you tried to contact their support?
