ScaleOut Software, Inc. today released its ScaleOut StateServer Enterprise Edition product for customer use. Enterprise Edition supports server farms with up to six servers, providing a smooth path for growth. Earlier this year, the company released its Server Edition product, supporting farms with up to three servers, for production use. Customers can upgrade to Enterprise Edition with no changes to their applications, and their workload data storage will automatically scale its capacity.

Results from tests and actual production use by customers have shown significant overall speed-up of Web applications in cases where session-state was moved out of the database and stored in ScaleOut StateServer. Craig Wall, Director of Enterprise Systems at Thomson Peterson’s, said “Our online learning applications need to provide fast response to users. By using ScaleOut StateServer instead of a DBMS, we saw an immediate performance speed-up, making our customers more productive. Also, session state information is highly available due to ScaleOut Software’s StoreSafe™ replication technology. In the future, Thomson Peterson’s will benefit by having a scalable architecture without any bottlenecks or single point of contention as we add more servers to our Web farm.”

ScaleOut StateServer is an in-memory, distributed data store that runs directly on server farms to store session-state thereby offloading the database and increasing overall performance. It installs as a Windows service and runs transparently to ASP.NET applications. As servers are added, storage automatically scales in overall capacity.
