How many of you eat prawn ? Prawn belongs to the same family as the cockroach and the tarantula. Phylum Arthropoda.

I eat Meat and Potatoes. 90% of the time. My grandmother used to make dandelion salads. That was as exotic as I used to gets. Bugs would never cut it.

<pedant>A phylum isn't the same as a family. "Phylum" is a much more inclusive grouping. It ranks just below kingdom, whereas "family" is just above "genus", with "class" and "order" in between.

Note that, at class level (one below phylum, two above family), all three are separated - cockroaches are in Insecta, tarantulas are in Arachnida and prawns are in Eumalacostraca.

Sorry, carry on...

Er! I wasn't using the word "family" in a taxonomical sense. Just meant to imply that prawns and shrimps are [distantly] related to a lot of creepy crawlies.

If it is still moving, then I definitely won't eat it. (* with one exception, not really digesting something )

Oh, I'm quite sure you did, and I didn't intend any criticism. It's just that I'm a part-time science geek (in a former life, I have a degree in biochemistry), and the population at large, it seems to me, generally misunderstands science to an astonishing degree. Every now and then I just like to clarify something that could be taken the wrong way. (Plus the intense desire to brain every half-wit journalist who uses the phrase "gravity-defying" when talking about astronauts in free-fall.)

Why do you say that ?

Graham

Why do you say that ?
Because "gravity-defying" is one of the most mind-numbingly idiotic things anyone can say. You can't defy gravity. Astronauts in orbit are reacting perfectly to gravity - that's why they're in orbit and not shooting off in a straight line out of the solar system.

Sahir
March 8th, 2006, 12:54 PM
OIC. Because we see them floating around we never think it's gravity that's keeping them in orbit. Good point.
@Others, sorry for straying off topic guys.

Yeah! They are all the same to a vegetarian :D

I'm quite picky about food

It must look edible and it must look nice - if that's not the case I won't eat it!

For example: Only sea food I eat is fish (no prawns, no calamari, no shrimps, no caviar - because they don't look nice to me)

Shrimps and prawns are actually tasty. I've tried one at a Hotel with oyster sauce and spinach. Yummy. :)

@Ideru: What is caviar again? Is that bagoong in our country? :D

ideru
March 9th, 2006, 01:32 AM
@cherish, nope its not bagoong..bagoong is basically made of small shrimp.. caviar is from a fish egg, i think its salted. Have not tasted one though. It's a bit expensive :D

@ideru: Not all types of fish

@cherish: I beleive you, lots of people I know also love it, but, to me, I have never tried it, maybe when I'm blindfolded, and somebody gave it to me. :p
