I've just got a new job as a web developer (yey!) and I'm going to have to produce a newsletter system as my first assignment (php/mysql). But I was wondering whether it would be better to use a prebuilt package. I've looked at Inspire's SendStudio and although that is very expensive, I think there must be cheaper alternatives. What would you use and why? Or would you rather code the whole thing yourself? Given that it is a fairly standard script I think it would be easier to use someone else's complete package.

How does free sound?

SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/softwaremap/trove_list.php) is a great place to get open source PHP applications. Just search for newsletter.

EDIT: Fixed link.

Wow thanks peejavery. I've been to sourceforge before but I've never seen this area before, just done the usual downloads from them (peer guardian etc.)

You're welcome. I fixed the link as well, just in case someone else comes along.
