View comes up in NT but not 95

I have an app using a splitterwnd, and when I run it under 9x the left view is missing completely - I've heard of problems encountered by some win95 apps when running on NT but not this way around. Maybe its an NT only method but I can't find a list of these in MSDN. Any help appreciated.
