ActiveX Button Control

I am subclassing the Button control only to give it a custom color. Therefore i have to use OCM_DRAWITEM message in reflected mode to draw the button with custom color . I am also using OCM_CTLCOLOR to specify the color. When i am adding the stock property Appearance and giving it a value of 1, it draws the button with sunken edge. I do not understand why.
Can somebody help me in getting around with it. So that i can have my own function to draw a 3d or flat button.
