Long delay when loading a project

I have been plagued by a problem for some time when loading a project into VC++v.5. When the status bas says "Loading Class Information" and the progress bar is 100% full, the IDE just hangs for an amount of time which is variable which can be from a few seconds to 20mins! Does anyone have any idea of what's going on. BTW I'm using Sourcesafe v.5. Could it be because of that??
