Licensing info

Hi all,
I need to provide a license to distributed copy of my application. I am distributing it as a Visual Studio created installer and on running that installer, the user will be asked for a license key/code/number. So how is this done? Can I have some information from somewhere? Googling gets me to much professional and proprietary s/w. I am looking for something simple right now; the most basic I can get and there on I can look further.

I don't think there is any wrong with professional and proprietary licensing software. Implementing a licensing mechanism is not trivial so don't expect everything to be simple. I've had a look at licensing software myself for a company I worked for. There are a few reasonably priced solutions out there. If I have some time tomorrow I might look up a few of them and suggest them to you. Most solutions will require you to change your code a little bit to inject calls to an API. The API will take care of the license validation and if the validation is successful you give the user access to your application. If you're not willing/able to pay for the professional licensing software I'm sure you can write your own implementation. It may not be as robust as the professionals but it may be sufficient for your needs.
