Sound Card for Data Acquisition in dual Channel mode ?

I want to use sound card as an Data acquisition card at sampling rate of upto 50 Khz (accurate). Also I want to have a complete control amplitude of the signal acquired. Can I use the stereo input of microphone to have get signal from two different signals & have them displayed seperately? How ?

Can u please suggest me the some good books on DirectX programming from where I can start with?
