Windows Explorer

In Explorer if the file name field is selected the user can type the first few letters of a file name and the program finds matching fields. Does anyone know how to modify Explorer so that it also does this in the Type field - or even if this is possible??

All help very much appreciated as I have drawn a complete blank.
