Brad!
The update was delayed. We expect to see the update on the main site late today. If you see any issues, feel free to report them here.
There should be no noticable impact on the forum. The changes are aimed at the main site and are mostly internal.
Brad!
EVERYONE --
As you can see, we've made the updates to the site. Obviously, it didn't go perfectly because many of you can't log into the forum. We are working on this issue.
Yes, we know the registration also doesn't work, nor does the password reminder. Things are being updated.... Stay tuned!
===
One of the changes we are making is to disconnect the forum log-in from the main site log-in. That is the reason for some of the "issues" you might be seeing.
Brad!
We don't have things perfect yet, but you should be able to cleanly log into the forums again. If you have trouble, please let me know.
Thanks!
Brad!
I had troubles all day (and last night).
Unfortunately, I could NOT inform you about that since anonymous posts are not allowed, and registration (for a temp account) was disabled.
I still can’t log in from the FireFox. Just tried IE and it worked. Strange, isn’t it?
I'm getting logged off after a short period of inactivity. Is that a new feature? If so I'm not a big fan of it, it's just annoying.
Same here. Can we go back to the previous version... you know... the one that actually worked? Brad said there should be no noticeable impact on the forum and I don't know what improvements or new features this version has, but so far it's been a big disappointment.
The irony is that the changes were primarily on the main site. Very little was changed on the forums! The change on the forum was around logging in. It impacted registering, logging in, and changing password/email addresses. It is actually a change that allows you to now change Password/email without jumping back into the main site. That is petty much the only changes on the forum that I'm aware of. 98% of the changes that just happened were on the main site. The main site now is operating on a completely different CMS.
I'll continue to work with our developes to see if we can get the issues fixed. Just keep raising the issues until we say "stop" ;) :)
Brad!
AFAICT it actually has always been like that, that fact just got concealed by the "remember me" feature being checked on log-in, which silently does a re-login for you. (You could just tell that you've got logged off while reading a long thread or writing a long post by looking at the last visit timestamp in the small "Welcome" box at the top, which jumps to the time when you started that specific activity in that case.)
So I suppose once the "remember me" feature will be back up and working again, that issue will be gone as well.
The login you reach in the screenshot below does not work correctly. To login you must use the top right fields and not the central ones, where it seems as if the password field not only lack the password char attribute, but also give back always an incorrect result (might it be it is the username duplicated under the hood?)
These have been sent via Email, but guess best to Officially report it here (Now that my login is working)
EDIT ...Quote:
The Articles appear to be fixed now, However there's still a problem with the Article Writers Pages...
The list of articles are still sorted oldest to newest, and not newest to oldest like everywhere else...
Also the Pagination is not working correctly..
This link should be to the last page of your articles (Page 11)
http://www.codeguru.com/member.php/Bradley+Jones/60
and according to the pagination list below it's on the last page, however it's somewhere on Page 3.. The next page only shifts up one article at a time...
The Above Issue has bee Fixed .....
Like Cimperiali, I'm also having to log in using the top-right fields. The fields shown in his screenshot don't work (although to be honest, there's something in the back of my mind that logging in has never worked reliably from that particular dialog).
However, the "Remember me" checkbox just doesn't work so I'm having to log in manually at each and every visit (which is quite annoying) :(
Remember me still doesn't seem to be working :)
FYI - I have asked the developers on point for this update to check this thread. As such, they should be getting your comments first-hand. '
Thanks guys!
Brad!
Have to log in every time I close the browser (Firefox). More irritating, I logged in, went to comment on this post, and had to log in again! VBF remembers correctly, btw.
Can we get rid of that "Thank you for logging in" screen? In my opinion such redirections should be kept for failure notifications only.
Heidi said the 'remember me' functionality should be fixed now.
The redirect item is a part of vBulletin I believe.
Brad!
Thanks. It works!
Also, can you shorten the delay? Seems to be about 5 seconds for the re-direct
Okay, can anybody explain how I can manage my articles now? The main site requires me to log on with e-mail address, and if I do specify one, it says it never knew me. The same way it does not accept my forums login. I'm kinda stuck.
PS. FYI, back in 2000 I lost my previous CG account, and had to re-register. I really hope now I get my articles back under my control...
I used to log in via the top right textboxes; I was never presented with the redirect screen before the site update - so, I suspect there is a vBulletin setting somewhere in there that can turn it off?
It is both annoying (as others pointed out), and impacts productivity.
I'll need to have someone look into the redirect link to see if something can be done.
On the issue with managing articles.....
The site has changed (obviously). If you need to update an article, you can simply send the article changes to us and we'll have them made. If you send a new copy, we'll replace the old one with the new.
Due to a change in the CMS being used, you no longer use the article interface to save and edit articles. Rather, it is used to simply submit new articles.
You should also note that there are a few other changes that have occurred as well. The way you add images is a little bit different as well. The tag format has changed. You also now have the ability to add tags to the article for the download files. This gives you more control over where these go.
Brad
Also this has been fixed. Thanks.
By the way: fro those who never saw it, it is useful: it comes out for example if you receive a mail tjhat link to a new private message, you are logged out and you click on the link in mail. That is: you will see it if you saved a link to a private page in codeguru, then you logout then you try to reach the private page via saved link.
Also, I don't know if you guys noticed, but IIRC, the icon of the site (the one displayed by browsers in the title bar/tabs) was a CG icon - now it's the generic vBulletin icon.
Did VBF get the update? Their icon is the same
Wow, I had no idea that VBForums is not just about VB forums! There's also C#, C++, Java, etc.
Anyway, as I understood, the update was, on the forums side, mostly about disconnecting the main site login from forums login - and VBF don't seem to be connected to the CG main site in that way.
As for this site - funny how doing an update like that ends up having rather curious side-effects; I mean, what does the site icon have to do with anything...
:D
Might it be some repository paths have changed too? Or might it be they had to change some code and did not see some functions did more than one operation or even a different operation as you could think by name of function? Thus skipping one might have odd results...
Yes, we'll get the icon updated. I'm also not sure why it changed.
The forum wasn't really updated (yet), it primarily (as was stated) was disconnected from the main site registration system. Now you can update your email and password (etc) without going though the main site system.
Brad!
A big problem:
discovered registration of new users is "disabled by admin".
-----
EDIT: NO, the following paage is not the correct one to create an account to be able to
post on CG forums. So how could a new user ?
---
That page should redirect to
http://www.codeguru.com/accountManag...gistrationForm
Or a newby stepping in the forum will not join us.
Seems as if registration works again.
Thanks,
When I Log Out from the Java forum, I'm presented with a choice of:
which would be really useful if both links didn't go to the same forums index page!!
- Return to the page you were previously viewing
- Go to forums index
EDIT
Additional info: The links work correctly from within a thread but not from Java forum
Page Load times for the forum is starting to slip every now and then...
Here you can see 2 1/2 Minutes to load a page ....
Page load times - I've not had anyone else report this. Regardless, I'll ask the admins/techs to take a look at the servers and see if anything odd is going on.
Brad!
I don't know if is a bug, but on my published article, I don't see the author name :
http://www.codeguru.com/cpp/controls...cheditview.htm
Thank you.
I don't see it either!
But I see a lot of ads instead...
Victor - Ad's didnt' really change.
mesajflaviu - I think this is a snafu in the system, and partially an issue related to the articles that were in the system during the migration. email me ([email protected]) with the name you want on th earticle and I'll get a temporary fix in place for your article as I dig into the issue deeper.
Brad
So i've been complaining about my latest article quite a bit... and eventually I see it's now live...
Article is here , How ever it has a strange number at the end, Not seen on any other articles....
Then It does have a name on the article (unlike some others). that links back to the Authors page..
However on the authors page this article does not appear.. (Latest one there is Part 2 .. Not Part 3) and the Author's Blurb (About the Author) is not shown at the end of the article..
And even on the Guru's listing page the article is not listed under the Author...
Also ... There's supposed to be a Project download with the article. The article rely's on the download...
Comments:
We have an editor that reviews, edits, and posts each article. She can't do a tech review, but she does a grammatical edit and formatting on each. She also works to schedule each article.
I've asked about the download file.
I've asked a developer to look a tthe other issues (such as why the new article isn't on the index pages. It doesn't sound like a caching delay.
Thanks Brad ... Slowly we will fix all the little problems with the articles....
