Help with remote database
Hey Everyone!!
Im kinda lost on wether or not i should post this here or in the C# section. Please, bare with me..
I have set up a C# application with a local database and its everything going perfectly great. However, now im trying to set the database in a remote server and adding the capability of accessing either the local database (in the event of an internet connection lost) or the remote data base (which will be the default connection). However, i dont know how to do this. I dont know how what code to use to connect remotely.
My computer as a VPN connection with the server and i can ping from my computer and into the remote server. Its an Ubuntu Server machine and it has the MySql server installed on it. I can even access the server from a telnet connection in my personal computer.
How do i get this to work?
Let me know ASAP,
Oscar

There are many ways to skin a cat. Some coding would be necessary on your part to convert ODBC but:

Thanks for the reply ahoodin.. However, im not quite sure what to do with this. Why should i use ODBC if im using MySql? Isnt MySql multi-platform? Thanks anyway :)
Re: Help with remote database
What you need is a database connector.
CSharp will access ODBC, so you can put an ODBC connection on your server and get your queries that way.
Alternatively you may want to design an API that sends socket communications to another server program that translates them into the transactions on your remote server to get the data access. I have done this in the past.
Whatever you decide, any path will require work. How much work is up to you.
