Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
What has happened to the forums! I can't post or edit as I'm not getting a text box displayed into which I can type! It displays briefly and then disappears! This happens on all our computers using Firefox or IE 11. Using IE8 displays the edit box but doesn't display the editing style buttons above it!
Help!

Help!
I confirm this problem for "Quick Reply" and "Private Message" boxes.
Editbox in "Advanced mode" does work.
I use Google Chrome.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Advanced mode also doesn't work in Firefox or IE11. IE8 gets the edit box but no editing icons.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Is this happening consistently or hit and miss? I'm not having the issue, but with two of you mentioning it, there is obviously something going on.
Is anyone else having this issue? If so, please chime in and give as much detail as possible.
Thanks!
Brad!

Tech suggested:

Suggest that they try a different message editor interface, found in General Settings -> Miscellaneous Options. Disabling WYSIWYG might help.
Can you try this and let us know if it makes a difference?

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Hi Brad!
I am now at another PC and it does not have the reported problems.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
All is well for me -> IE 10 and Chrome 33.0.1750.146 m.
I also went into Settings-> EDITOR and changed from WYSIWYG to Basic. Bother work OK for me.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
FF 17 - I saw the problem...closed the browser to come back and get a screen shot and all is well.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Now seems to have been fixed. Before marking thread as resolved, I'll monitor and report back.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
I came back with my favorite browser and was able to create the attached screen shot... I hit the F5 key and am now able to post.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
That screen shot is the problem I was getting - no text edit box! It's now OK for me but looks like its moved on! :ehh:
When it was happening here, the edit box/icons briefly appeared and then disappeared - almost as if another window had been laid over them.
If the problem hasn't been identified and fixed, then something weid is going on.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Pretty sure it was some sort of page loading issue...could have been an ad that was running at the time?!?!?!? If it happens again - hit the F5 key.... and or clear the cache in your browser.

That's possible - as now that its working again, the ads have changed!

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
IE 10 isn't working for me. I just tried to respond to a post and was able to type two lines of text, but when I hit the enter key, it refused to add another line. I closed the browser, retried and even saved the post and then attempted to edit it with no luck. Even in this post I can't add more than two lines.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
As another similar issue is that it's really tough to answer threads from a mobile browser. After you get several lines, you are unable to scroll down in the editor window (instead the complete page scrolls down so you can't access text (often text you've just typed). On mobile dragging the arrow at the lower right corner of the editor doesn't work either.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Over here, IE8, IE11 and Firefox 27 are still working OK - with a different set of ads than when the problem occurred (if that's the cause of the issue?).
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
The offending ad is 'Clipstream'. Everytime this ad shows, I get the edit problem.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
I reported what you wrote.. Please try to grab a screen shot if you see the ad again.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
I can confirm that the Quick Reply text box as well as related buttons (at least sometimes) are missing when the Clipstream ad is displayed on the page; using Dolphin Browser 10.2.7 on Android.
Will see if I can take a screen shot of the ad when I'm back at the Windows box.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Often times the ads are regional. Since both of you guys are on the same side of the big blue pond - would probably explain why I haven't seen the ad.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Will someone PLEASE block that $%^&* clipstream ad from appearing - or fix the forums so that it doesn't mess up editing!!!!!
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
I don't know if it's the ad, but yesterday I had the "can't type more than one line" issue again.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
I just saw the Clipstream ad here and didn't have the Reply Box issue.... I'm using Chrome.
Plus I've seen the ad on some sister sites and didn't have any problems... Nor has anyone else reported a similar issue.
Does hitting the F5 key help with the quick reply box is grayed out?
Does it only happen when you're using your Droid device?

This isn't on my droid device. It's happening in IE10.

Happens on Windows XP/Vista/7/8.1 using Firefox (v12 upwards) and IE10 and IE11. Hitting F5 restores the edit box. Don't use Chrome so can't comment.

I have found that if I set the page to run in "compatibility mode" I get the multiline edits. Unfortunately, the rest of the site doesn't render well. I know that sometimes WebSite folks can get a bit uppity about getting things to work on IE (always blaming IE and recommend to run FF or Chrome), but I need to be using IE. Can someone please repro this issue and get a fix? Thanks.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Raised this to Techs again.

It is being suggested to me that you avoid the WYSIWYG editor. There are compatibility issues with it and some browsers. Can I assume your issues go beyond just using that editor page?

Okay. I switched back to the enhanced editor - it seems fine now. Too bad the WYSIWYG editor can't support the browser that comes with Windows - you know, the operating system I make my living on.
Thanks, Brad!

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
It's a vBulletin thing, not a Codeguru or QuinStreet thing. I'm with you on it being a shame that modern versions of IE aren't fully compatible.
-
Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
[QUOTE=Brad Jones;2150911]Understood, Brad, but given IE ships with Windows, vBulletin should ensure compatibility with the recent IE browsers.

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
How much longer are we going to have to suffer editing problems whenever the Clipstream ad is displayed? Can't some one FIX THE PROBLEM please! Surely this isn't beyond the abilities of the people who maintain this site?

Re: Issue with using the fourms - cannot edit or post
Did you change the editor style within your profile settings here that was mentioned in some of the previous posts?
Didn't you say that hitting the F5 key fixes the issue? While a less than perfect situation - you can at least continue posting..

Yes, but that doesn't mitigate from the fact that there is an underlying problem with the site which needs to be sorted. Relying upon workarounds is not, and never is, the solution.

This forum is running on third party software. It isn't always possible for us to fix a problem as we rely on the software vendor for the core. Sometimes we are stuck with work-arounds until the software vendor fixes and updates the software.
