I used gettimeofday() but i have the same problem

The value of start is also 0.On failure clock() returns -1 thus it did not failed. Is there another way to benchmark my function?

thanks if i add const it works!!Can you explain why it needs const before?
And something else if i have a throw without a catch and try the program will terminate when executes throw?

this program when a=0 terminates with the following error "this applicationhas requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" normally it have to print "error" am i wrong?
