  1. Re: Is it possible to add to (i.e. extend) a std::stringstream ?

    Thanks guys. Creating the object uninitialized seems to do the trick. I must admit, it surprised me but what the heck... :)
  2. Is it possible to add to (i.e. extend) a std::stringstream ?

    Suppose I do this:-

    std::stringstream whatever("initialize, ");

    whatever << "then add";

    Somehow I expected the stringstream to contain initialize, then add. Whereas in fact, it seems to...
  3. Re: Using upper_bound() and lower_bound() (from the 'algorithm' header)

    Thanks Philip. I'll try your 2nd suggestion and I'll try to find out if the vector is guaranteed to be sorted.

    What would happen if the vector wasn't sorted? Does that give us undefined behaviour?
  4. Using upper_bound() and lower_bound() (from the 'algorithm' header)

    I'm trying to debug some code which uses upper_bound() and lower_bound(). In the following example, _ary is essentially a std::vector of 64-bit ints:-

    Re: Compiling on an x86 CPU

    That's a really interesting list. Thanks for finding it.!

    What's Itanium BTW?? I only ever hear it mentioned in relation to servers so I've never been 100% certain. Is it related to x86 or...

    Re: Compiling on an x86 CPU

    Thanks OReubens. Something occurred to me just after I posted - am I right in thinking that MSVC can only target the x86 architecture? If so, I guess I could just test for _MSC_VER

    [Edit...] No, I...

    Compiling on an x86 CPU

    I'm compiling some open source code (originally written for Linux / gcc) which uses the following line to determine if a particular section is being compiled for an x86 processor:-

    Re: Graphical alternative to pastebin ?

    Yeah, that's the problem I've encountered. I just wondered if someone could recommend one that's least intrusive.

    [Edit...] Actually, I just found postimage which doesn't seem too bad... :thumb:

    Graphical alternative to pastebin ?

    The pastebin site is a great tool for letting programmers share code fragments etc. But its big limitation is that it's restricted to text. You can't (for example) share a screenshot with someone.

    Re: Thread/Core affinity

    Thanks guys. I tried both the Task Manager and Process Explorer and they both showed the same results (as you might expect!) Setting a process's affinity to one particular core did show a noticeable...

    Thread/Core affinity

    I use the Windows CPU Meter on my dual-core machine. It has two dials which I (wrongly) thought were showing me the usage for core #1 and core #2. But I've just realised this morning that the 2nd...

    Re: Text format conversion

    Thanks Laserlight. After a lot of (confusing) research yesterday I kinda ended up with the same conclusion.

    From what I can tell, the full specification looks like this:-

  13. Re: Windows 10: Is Microsoft Seeing Things That Arenít There?

    I'm not sure if it's the same thing - but with regard to the 'single app store' I remember hearing (about 18 months ago) that Microsoft was working on a utility similar to Linux's apt-get. For anyone...

    Re: Text format conversion

    I need a little help with cross-platform stuff. Suppose I have this file path in Windows:- C:\file.txt

    If I was to convert that to a URI it would look like this:- file:///C%3A/file.txt

    But...
  15. [RESOLVED] URI question - how many forward slashes??

    Suppose I have this file path in Windows:- C:\file.txt

    If I was to convert that to a URI it would look like this:- file:///C%3A/file.txt

    But what's the situation in Linux (where file paths...

    Re: Text format conversion

    In this particular case, yes.

    [Edit...] and given that I am dealing with URLs and filenames in this instance, I've just found a handy little function in libglib. (it's called g_filename_frum_uri)....

    Text format conversion

    Does anyone know of a handy function (or library) for converting between different text formats? I've heard of a library called iconv but I've no familiarity with it. However, it looks promising...

  21. Re: Switch git to a new upstream branch (without losing my local changes)

    2) At the same time, I sync my...
  22. Switch git to a new upstream branch (without losing my local changes)
