  1. Re: Recent Windows update breaks app installation

    Hi Arjay. I just thought I'd update you. A lot's been happening over on that original Microsoft Community Forum. I don't know if it was down to your influence but thanks either way. Two of the...

    Compiler flag '/vd2'

    I don't know how many of you are familiar with Glib and Gtk+. They're part of a suite of libraries which often get used to produce cross-platform GUIs (a bit like Qt etc). Each library has an object...
  3. Re: Recent Windows update breaks app installation

    Thanks Arjay.

    At our end, we haven't had any further reports of this problem. But over on the Microsoft forum several other people have reported the exact same experience, so I think it's...
  4. Re: Recent Windows update breaks app installation

    Hmmm... fell at the first hurdle. It seems that there are only 21 products currently accepting bug reports. Windows Update isn't one of them :cry:

    I followed various links from that page and...
  5. Re: Recent Windows update breaks app installation

    Fair point. In fact, I'd already reported it against the relevant knowledgebase article (though whether that'll get it noticed is anybody's guess). I'll follow Victor's recommendation too.

  6. Re: Recent Windows update breaks app installation

    Thanks Victor, I'll keep that in mind. My only worry is that one random report from some unknown dev might not get taken seriously. OTOH if there's a CodeGuru member who's opinions are already...
  7. Recent Windows update breaks app installation

    Does anyone here have a hotline through to Microsoft? Initially I thought about posting this in one of the Slow Chat forums (which apparently used to attract the attention of Microsoft) but those...

    Re: boost::bind

    Thanks laserlight. I discovered that the addition of some global namespace qualifiers seems to be helping - i.e.

    clist.add_connection (_connect (boost::bind (&compositor, ::_1, ::_2, ::_3)));...

    boost::bind

    Can anyone explain (simply) what is meant by the symbols _1, _2, _3 etc, when used with boost::bind(). More importantly - was this supported by MSVC 8?

    I'm trying to build some code that has...

    std container iterators

    When using an iterator with a std container (list / vector etc) sometimes it's possible to modify the container (e.g. delete an item) yet still carry on using the iterator - whereas in other cases,...

    Re: 'C' Runtime (dumb question?)

    Linking statically you mean? Yes, that's not a bad idea at all. Thanks for the suggestion.

    'C' Runtime (dumb question?)

    Bit of a long story coming up... our products use InstallShield as their installer. We chose InstallShield because it can distribute the exact same OS components that we use when building our apps -...

    Re: namespace expert needed :-(

    Thanks O'Reubens. The other possibility is Glib (from the GTK+ project). Our own project already uses Glib so with a bit of luck, that might hopefully be simpler than implementing all this Akupara...

    Re: namespace expert needed :-(

    I spent a couple of hours experimenting this morning but even after following the suggestions here, I couldn't come up with anything that would compile. One thing that puzzled me was this code from...

    Re: namespace expert needed :-(

    Wow, thanks for the info!

    I found one other header file which contains the text "implements_load" and "implements_store". In cut-down form it looks like this:-

    // header_C.h
    namespace...

    Here's the full build output (the first error is at that line I marked in red):-

    Re: namespace expert needed :-(

    Actually, in the original code it does (remember that I've stripped a lot of stuff out, to make the problem easier to reproduce).

    That would have been my next question! :) For corporate...

    namespace expert needed :-(

    I'm building some code which has a lot of stuff in namespace Akupara. I've no idea what the word 'Akupara' actually means - but the namespace arrangement seems to be giving me a weird problem....

    Thanks guys. Shortly after posting I came down with some horrible virus (i.e. dizziness / cold / headache etc - not a computer virus!) but there's plenty of stuff here for me to investigate once I'm...

    Perl Re: Running a system command

    Yeah, I must admit I'm seriously contemplating that. If I rewrite it in C++ it'll most likely work first time. And even if it doesn't, at least I know I'll be able to fix it !

    I don't understand...

    Perl Re: Running a system command

    Hi OReubens. I'm not very familiar with Perl but I assumed that's what its system command did?

    I found this new set of perl statements. These ones work in Windows 7 and Windows XP - but not for...

    Re: GetStdHandle() (Windows 8 / 8.1)

    Thanks OReubens. I swapped my original order and tested on Win7 and Win8.1 (where it now appears to work on both). I haven't tried XP yet but hopefully that'll work too. :thumb:
