    Re: Help with SQL

Figured it out. It's a subquery in the select statement.

    VictorN,

Thanks for your help too, but the problem was that I didn't know where to start, or what it was called that I needed to do,...

    Re: Help with SQL

    Viperbyte,

I am familiar with joins. But I think this is something more than that. The table that holds the addresses would hold two addresses for each person, so I need to take the two rows for...

    Help with SQL

I have a problem with an SQL query. I have a huge book on SQL, but I don't know what I'm attempting to do is called, therefore I don't know what to look up. I will explain it as simply as...
  5. Re: How to build my own 'Intellisense' with tooltips?

I wrote a HTML rendering control a few years ago, and this problem is essentially the same problem as detecting a mouse over hyperlinked text.

I never looked at Mozilla code, or any other source. ...
  6. Re: How to get IPs of the machines in the lan???

The ones that are listening to the port will receive the broadcast message. That's the definition of it being broadcast.

To solve your problem, you have to have the ones listening to the port,...

    Re: Philosophical Programming

Judging by the titles of most programming books in the bookstore, I think the limit is about 21 days to learn a new language. :D

Poll: Re: Help Decide the Best August Articles

    Brad,

I'm not knocking your contest. You need to run it as you see fit, and as time allows. This is not what I'm replying about. I'm replying to the ones who don't or can't see the two...

Poll: Re: Help Decide the Best August Articles

Well, let me help you see.

Assume, there are 3 winners per game "time frame".

One time frame is 30 days (the August contest)

The next time frame is 60 days (September and October)

    We will...

Poll: Re: Help Decide the Best August Articles

I must remember that logic the next time my work deadlines are approaching. I'll be able to double my time, and get twice the accolades.

    Brilliant.

Poll: Re: Help Decide the Best August Articles

    That doesn't seem fair.

People who submitted an article in August only had to compete against one month of submissions.

Now you're saying if you submit in September, you are competing against...

    Brad!
Item article #2 and article #3 are linking to the same article.
  14. Re: Article preview doesn't show HTML markup

    Okay...
I closed down IE and started it again, then automagically the text was formatted with my HTML tags.

    Weird... but apparently fixed now.

  15. Re: Article preview doesn't show HTML markup

I didn't try launching it in a browser, as it wasn't that complicated. For instance, if you type a bunch of text and put a <p> for paragraph breaks, and <b> and </b> around what you want to be bold,...
  16. [RESOLVED] Article preview doesn't show HTML markup

I'm trying to submit an article. The submission page where you enter your text instructs you to use basic HTML.

I'm using <p> and <b> and </b> in the text, but the preview shows it all the same...

Re: Good idea here? I think so...

    Okay,

Thanks for those example photos. I've seen that before. That's solved with setting StretchBltMode to either HALFTONE, or COLORONCOLOR. I forget which. A simple one line fix.

Re: Good idea here? I think so...

I ran your fixed.exe program and I don't see the problem you're seeing. I wonder if it's because of a display driver difference. In other words, your "fixed" demo program looks just like my...

Re: Good idea here? I think so...

I'm not knocking what you've created, but if you did all of that because StretchBlt is causing distortion, you must be doing something wrong. I've never had StretchBlt perform unsatisfactorily,...

Re: Question about double buffering concept

    Yes. Exactly.

Once you create a memory DC with CreateCompatibleDC and you create a compatible bitmap with CreateCompatibleBitmap and select that bitmap into that memory DC, just route all your...

Re: Question about double buffering concept

    Basically...

Handle WM_CREATE and create a compatible memory DC.

Handle WM_SIZE and create a compatible bitmap the size of your client area. If it exists, be sure to destroy it first.

Re: Much Needed Help With A Program

I would start by getting a pencil and a piece of paper. I'd do on PAPER, by hand what I needed the program to do. Then I'd write code to do what I did by hand. That's always the first step.

  23. Re: Bitmap printing -> tiny printed picture ??

Are you taking into consideration that a BMP on a screen is shown at about 72 dpi, and the same BMP on a printer will be at LEAST 300 dpi? Maybe 1200 dpi?

StretchBlt it to the actual printer DC...

    Re: Apgar score for software?

But in the end, what would it (the score) tell you?

Can't you imagine a scenario where you could get a perfect score, yet the software still be a big piece of crap?

Re: We want your opinion - Improving Codeguru

The solution seems simple to me.

1.) Apply page access counters to the articles. Make them visible to all.

2.) Use some of the income coming from the right 1/4 of the CodeGuru page (your...
