Forum Software Feedback Needed

The problems with the current forum software are well known so I won't go into the details on that. As a result of these problems and standarizing all our sites, CodeGuru is looking into using another Forum software package. What I need to know is what you like and dislike about the current Forum software.

The forum does have problems, but i pretty much like it. i suggest fixing them before totaly changing the forums.

That's because you don't see the underlying code and realize how much has to be changed in order to fix the problems.

Actually though, we haven't made a firm decision on this issue. What I'm looking for here is what features you guys would want to see in a Discussion Board (whether it be something we add here or make sure another package has).

I like the forum interface as it is, mostly. Other forums I have been to, such as HP's tech support forum for scanners, is slow and inefficient in its message handling. For example, when I wanted to see a single thread, the software tried to refresh *all* threads and took forever over a 56K modem at home.

Most of my problems with CodeGuru seem to be technical, not interface, issues: database errors, pages not available then available if I refresh the page, etc.

As I said once, i wouldn't like to see this software dumped. Really like it. So much that if that happens, perhaps you can give me a copy to put in my living room, just aside my awards (when i have them) eheh

*) I personally like any site that is mainly text. Thought these forums are mainly for Windows Users/Programers, many of us may access it with Un*x derived packages, used in so many companies.

*) I don't see the need for expanded threads in Forum Listings, but its better to leave that as an option

*) Profile is usefull sometimes, as well as emailing system.

*) Voting is great, even if not used to acknoledge answers, may bring some motivation for people responding.

*) [Xcode][/Xcode] is quite usefull, sometimes avoid having to copy-paste things, as we can see changes and what's necessary to see. I say this because i think there's a problem with copying what's between these tags to clipboard, as it'll go as a single line sometimes. Wonder why....

*) Private Messaging is usefull also (Really need to justify??)

Hi, Codeguru.

The only disadvantage of the current forum is that I can't find my post easily since the post location is updated automatically.

For example, if I answer some question and forgot the topic, I can't
answer additional question if someone asks me another question.

VC++ forum gets 200-300 posts every day, and I don't waste my time
to find my post unless some VC programmer have much time and kill his time so that he tries to find his post in them.

Well, VC programmer doesn't always write the code.
