Tutorial HowTo Book Help Tutorials Link Links Howtos Tutorials
This is a fairly common question, so I figured I would make a post that we can just link to when needed.
The idea is to post useful links, articles, etc.. for people looking to get started with vb.net.
.NET 3.5/VS2008 info:
Free Visual Studio (VS)2008 versions:
VS2008 Express Editions
Books
I know I always say it, but it's still true. You only need to look at two series of books to find what you need to get started with Microsoft technologies.
1) Microsoft .NET Development Series
2) Microsoft Step-By-Step Series
Just search for the specific technology in those two series, and you're on your way.
Reference:
Getting Started
Base Class Libraries Overview
Base Class Libraries Detail
MSDN
ASP.NET blogs - Very good for relevant .NET info (includes most MSDN blogs)
MSDN blogs - Good for the advanced crowd
.NET 2.0/VS2005 info:
Free Visual Studio (VS)2005 versions:
VS2005 Express
Books:
I absolutely love the Step-by-step books for beginners and subjects new to old pros:
VB.NET 2005 Step-by-Step
The .NET Development series is pretty good too. Here is a link to an index of books from Microsoft including the above mentioned series:

Also don't forget the help that comes with VS. I've answered many questions on several forums by pasting codes/samples straight from the docs.
