Well...as with any feature, there are people that like them and people that do not like them...thus, one always have to look at the majority...and from my experience here...people tend to like some kind of rating for whatever reasons...

Was just going to move the thread here...
...but you where faster than I was, Andreas !
To TT(n):
There will always be soeone who dislike some feature, but as Andreas said,
there are people that like them.
This one - a rating system - is something I like a lot:
It is a kind of feedback
It is a virtual reward
It feeds my ego
It let me feed other people ego
....
...at present time, using mainly Net 4.0, Vs 2010
Special thanks to Lothar "the Great" Haensler, Chris Eastwood , dr_Michael, ClearCode, Iouri and
all the other wonderful people who made and make Codeguru a great place.
Come back soon, you Gurus.

Too bad it was removed during last forum design upgrade.
Some people are gone and some post less since...
BTW is "Top 10" feature back?

Well...I am not sure whether this would actually be a bad thing...I do not think that the number of posts has decreased that much since then...and besides that, I am basically not really sure whether getting ratings would be the most appropriate reason to get on sites like this. I know that it seems to be human nature to be number one at everything you can...but I have noticed, that the quality of answers was lower in average than it is right now. And this usually happens...in order to get a rating, many have simply written half-correct or incorrect answers...the drawback of course was that the one who had the question did not know that the answer was not correct etc.
Anyway...many new have joined since then...

Nope...not in the way that it was before...however, you can get the ranking by soriting the member list on the 'Reputation' column...

There is a Top 20 posters page in this version of the software, but I don't remember how to get to it. As stated, the easiest way to get the top posters is to go to the member page and sort it by postings.

I'm curious as to what percentage of members are using the ratings system.

[$0.02 rant]
Good question. I guess it would depend on the seriousness of the person. If it is just a newbie that joined for a small programming problem and then just abandons his/her id, then definitely not him. But others who have been here longer and would like to see CG further develop into a great place where you can ask questions and get answers (not to say that it is not that way right now ), then they probably use it quite often.

rep
The word "Reputation" is hardly graphitti.
This really does not completely prevent vandilization, though maybe it hinders it.
I just worry, who has the right to make a flippant "Bad report".
