I thought you were referring to the Halo-Halo I know of. And it is a dessert. It's not a cocktail.
    Somebody stop me!
Yes, dessert in which you mix things... and that is called by some people cocktail:

They used to make it by using large jars, covered with cheese cloth with chopped pineapple skins, and mixed with a formula of sugar and liquor, then wait patiently for the mold to fill the whole jar. Pagsanja also discovered the sweet taste of the tubo [tubu] which is one of their delicacy. It is a round spongy growth inside a very mature coconut. With this, they make their halo-halo (fruit cocktail in crushed ice, sugar and milk) unique, by including this.

Simply put, the alcoholic content of "cocktail" makes it different from "fruit cocktail".

LOL! I dunno. Haven't given it much thought. Why don't you ask your Filipino friends there at UAE?

A fruit cocktail basically is a can of fruit preserves . The fruit can be served seprately from the juice together with crushed ice, or make it into halo-halo. Most ppl just buy cans of fruit cocktail in making halo-halo, for its convenience, rather than buying separate fruit and then slicing it.

Most ppl in the philippines don't know how to swim?? yeah that is probably true. Water is very rare there

I find it funny too! To live surrounded by water and not knowing how to swim?
This is why I'm asking, 'cause none of my friends / coworkers from Philippines (also from Sri Lanka) know how to swim!
I recall being so excited as a kid, to have some warm weather in spring to go splash in the lakes of the city. Couldn't wait for summer! Never missed the opportunity to go to the Black Sea. But then again, I imagine that is not so much fun when you've lived on the beach in like... forever.

Well, at least I know how not to drown...

    EDIT:
But if you think about it, even though Philippines or Sri Lanka is surrounded by water, its a pretty big chunk of land. So ofcourse, those who do not live near the sea/beach wouldn't know how to swim. Also, just because you were born or live in a place surrounded by water, doesn't mean you're naturally born with the inclination/want to learn swimming. Some people are hydrophobic.. among other reasons.

I grew up in the city. No nearby beaches and stuff, but I just love swimming and wanted to learn.. so we go to places where there are swimming pools.
It would be more ridiculous if your job involves most of the time in the water (like fishing, etc...) and not know how to swim.

Hmm. I get that a lot.
Anyways, like what Ideru also said, fruit cocktail is basically different from just cocktail. That's why I had to explain... or something.

@cilu: Good that you remembered. Sorry for going off-topic. I will shut up now.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not
necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to
land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly

    LOL...

Those faces are not of my creation... Rather, my whiteboard is free-for-all to practise some graffitti on! When I like it, I let it stay for longer... It is my way of encouraging amateur art!

If you observe them closely, they seem to be looking over my shoulder and reacting to whats on my monitor...

/ So, I am not sure if grumpy describes their expression adequately... How about - Terrified and Embarrassed?

Yes, you are right. Terrified, yes. Embarassed, no. Perhaps I-Know-Your-Secret-Ha-Ha-Ha for the top figure.

See! This is what I like about cartoons / graffitti - it tends to opinionate people, and brings out different perspectives.

It'll be interesting to note what other members think about those expressions... (This thread anyways spends more time discussing topics of no relevance )
