Nice. The DSLRs are great for such dramatic pics

I did have to time some shots...each of which I made on the first try. I love pool. Used to play about 3 hours a day.

    That's a nice photo...

However , as the camera seems to have been placed on a stable surface, you had the option to reduce the ISO Number to say 100 or 80, with a time delay, and that would have given you a greatly clear photograph. Increasing ISO number increases noise in the pic, as also visible - though, your camera did do a good job at that high ISO.

(By 'clarity', I am not pointing at 'focus'... Rather electronic noise.)

The camera was on a tripod at about one foot above the table. I used a high ISO because the lighting. The room was very dark. Had I been able to stand completely still, I would have lowered the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture to get a nicer photo. But, I had to work with what I was given.

Hopefully my wife will let me invest in some good lighting stands some day.

No, you dont need lighting in this case as you have a tripod.

In fact, that's precisely what tripods are good for - to let you take low ISO photos in existing light situations using long exposures and high F-numbers without having the photo spoiled by the 'shake' that comes in if you take it with the camera in your hands...

Yes, I understand that. But, I could not stand completely still enough so that I wasn't blurry.

Ah, good point. In that case, reduce F-number (i.e. increase aperture).

I lowered the tripod right down to about an inch above the rail. Wasn't about to let my camera take a beating on the break!

Didn't you mean this? Or did I miss the point?

I love pool. Used to drink about 3 hours a day.

My new laptop has a camera, and facial recognition. It's fun, but not serious.
