Re: The no typing thread
I rewired my speakers into an I/O device to scan noise frequencies which I can control with a pencil sharpener next to me. I can put differently weighted paper in the thing to cover the lower case letters, and I can crush cardboard to different densities to cover the upper cases. I haven't figured out how to toggle capslock, and the cardboard is really messing up my pencil sharpener. It may go out of service by the time I finish a sentence of yelling at you guys.

Re: The no typing thread
i never understood the purpose of onscreen keyboard.....
but now i found a meaningful use...... :-)
ok, let's say: suppose someone gets involved in an accident, he looses his left arm, 4 fingers of the right hand and the remaining finger gets sticked to his nose... i suppose he'll get the keyboard more comfortable than the mouse....... no?

Re: The no typing thread
okay, I"m breaking my own rule and using the keyboard - this is an XP machine, so no Vista Speech Recognition here....
I should have said no keyboard or mouse. I was working on a chapter for a Vista book this week-end that includes a section on speech recognition. I wanted to see if I could actually use the software to open up IE, surf to Codeguru and enter a post -- all without the keyboard or mouse, only using voice.
The software isn't perfect, but it is getting there. As this tread attests, I was able to accomplish my task.
Side comments --
The on-screen keyboard is good for tablet devices. It is also good for touch screens. Its main purpose, however, is for people who can't use a keyboard due to a disability.
Calculator - you better get your patent for that quickly before Microsoft or someone else does..... (and might I recommend you use caution in what you allow it to type.... )

Re: The no typing thread
Well Brad, it`s ot fair if you are using virtual keybopard(screen keyboard) it`s also a keyboard but just with another design
And it`s only one way to put text to computer (I doubt that it`s possible with browsers so not to this nice forum) is to use microphone and speach regonition engine
God could improve essentially a
human nature, but he
was too anxious with compatibility
with the monkey.
