Re: What are the alternatives for Active Directory ?
Although not a full directory services provider, AzMan can be quite useful if you are looking to manage users and roles...

Re: What are the alternatives for Active Directory ?
No no, I am looking for alternative to AD completly, we are in process of developing support for all LDAP servers so we need to test it with at least 3-4 of them.

Re: What are the alternatives for Active Directory ?
The main contenders for this purpose seem to be Fedora Directory Server, OpenDS, and Apache Directory Server
Seeing as you don't even mention Samba, I assume you are trying to avoid drop-in replacements for AD?
Re: What are the alternatives for Active Directory ?
take a look at Resara Server at http://www.resara.org. there are open source and commercial versions available. it provides an AD 2008 domain via Samba4, and makes setup/management simple. also provides file sharing, dns/dhcp, remote file access, etc.
