Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
Is this for one project only, or for all? If it's only for a project, delete the .ncb file for that project (you could do the same with .clw too) and the open the project and try again.

Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
Thanks for replying,
I am afraid its not a problem with my project, there seems to be a problem with visual studio.
Even if click the open option (Ctrl+O) option the visual studio crashes.
With a pop-up message saying "Microsoft developer studio has stopped working"

Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
Just a guess but does the file you try to load have linux end-of-line? VC6 can't handle those.
Time to upgrade this ancient software to something more modern?

Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
Thanks for replying,
The browser window that used to allow me select the .cpp..h file does'nt even pop-up.
The visual studio crashes as soon as i try to do so.
Another thing i would like to bring to your notice is, when i tried installing the visual studio,
when i select the browse button to choose the destination where i want to install the visual studio.
The set up crashes there as well.

Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
Hm, could your windows installation be broken (virus?). What if you select file/open in for instance notepad?

Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
VS uninstallation may leave corrupted files/components in the system. So that reinstalling VS may not fix the issue. I'm afraid you might have to try to reinstall the system. I had to do that due to problems with Visual Studio. And more than once.

Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
I ran into a similar problem, installing service pack 6 for Visual C++ 6.0 helped fix it

Re: Appcrash msdev.exe
Before going any further, go to a registry and delete (rename) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DevStudio\6.0 and 5.0. Also make sure that your macro files are not corrupted.
After that, restart VS.
If yo used some custom toolbars and assigned macros, corruption of registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DevStudio\6.0\Layout key is a culprit. I would even be tempted to try to delete or rename this key first and if it won’t help try suggestion above.
By the way Vista is not too friendly for VS 6.0.
There are only 10 types of people in the world:
Those who understand binary and those who do not.
