If you look at what is pinned above(thread list view) you would see that ms is kind-a sort-of supporting vb6 programs as they have said that vb6 programs will be able to run on win7 but after that... Unfortunatly to say it is not looking good. MS's support is gone but there are a couple of grass roots kind of groups that are porting vb to other OS's but how successful they will be will depend upon the business community and if they want to leave MS OS's behind for things like Linux and such.

Hey, if we were all coding in C# right now, that might be true. But, you'd have to learn C#. Why not just learn VB.Net? VB6 just can't do half of the things that VB.Net can.

While there may not be updates to the IDE or the runtime files, there's nothing stopping you from creating a VB6 app, and installing and running it. Given that win32 will likely be supported for some time to come, it doesn't seem to me like we're all going to wake up one day and find our VB6 apps suddenly not working, does it? Eventually, there may be enough changes to the OS such that VB6 apps may encounter problems, and I think that's what m$ is basically saying - they aren't going out of their way to make sure it works. But still, there has always been backward compatibility built into every version of windows. Otherwise it would be very inconvenient to install a newer version of the OS, if all your apps no longer worked.

So, the runtime files might continue working beyond win7, or maybe not. Though it wouldn't surprise me if someone patches them up, if something does eventually break.

But heck, m$ isn't the only company offering programming platforms. There's RealBasic, LibertyBasic, and a few others I don't recall ATM, plus Delphi, etc, etc.
