I had forgotten about the AJAX toolkit. Saw it when it first came out...

Open source projects have gained importance recently which wasn't the case probably 2 yrs back. Open source platforms like eclipse are proving quite beneficial for software development. Along with Microsoft's support for open source projects there have also been lesser established companies like lucidimagination are backing open source search platforms like Solr.Recently they went a step further in their support by launching a complete referral guide for Solr 1.4
( http://www.lucidimagination.com/Down...eference-Guide) sharing insights about solr's working fundamental.

I bet even if I paid you, you couldn't build linux again from nothing and linux did start with one person. Maybe I should pay billions of dollars to rebuild linux or maybe I should just use it? No one forced linux to be free and open sourced. Maybe I should pay someone to build MySql too or c++ again.

The point is a lot of work is free and open. Why not use it. It would be silly to pay someone to build these things for me that are already built and they are free. So let's do the "smart" thing.

I am sure people get paid to maintain these softwares.

I choose where I want to donate my time (like the CG forum). I choose not to donate time to projects where only the very few are able to procure paying service contracts.

I think the very definition of donate is to give. If you don't want to give and expect to be paid, I would recommend applying for a job

and only a few of them deserve to be paid. No one is just going to pay someone for donating to a free project in the first place( most of them ) unless they offer something they can't refuse.
