    codeguru and vbforums crashing

Lately when I try to open either site, I get this error:

    "Internet explorer cannot load site"
    "Operation aborted"

I tried disabling flash, and the site ads, but still crashing. I even tried reinstalling iexplorer 7 AND 8. Thes two sites are the only ones I'm having a problem with.

    Anyone else having this issue?

Sounds like you have a virus.

I doubt its a virus that only crashes these two sites.
To what purpose. It makes more sense that the site has had a recent upgrade, probably related to the ads, during completion of the document.

The page loads and shows, but then crashes during finalization.

Perhaps you have a virus that impacts components used by these two sites (since I believe both sites use the same forum engine and maybe run similar ads)?

Looking at this another way. I run codeguru from 3 different OS's on 4 different machines and it runs fine.

Have you tried running these two sites from a different machine?

    Re: codeguru and vbforums crashing

So far, the issue has mysteriously vanished.
It was only crashing sometimes, and I was able to create this thread with some luck.
Ironically I clicked the submit button and crashed, so could not view the new thread. lol

The only other thing I can think of is that I am working on a WebBrowser control, and somehow an error caused a glitch in my real browser.
Thus not a virus but a quirky error, perhaps. I figured uninstalling ie8, and reinstalling it would help, and then I even reverted back to ie7, as fresh install.

If it happens again, in the next few days, then I'll get to the bottom of it, and post results, but for now it seems to have abated completely.

It certainly seems like it's isolated to your system.

    Re: codeguru and vbforums crashing

I do have the site load slowly at times, but I'm not seeing crashes or errors. Let's see if others report crashes as well to see if we can narrow this down.

    Re: codeguru and vbforums crashing

I traced it down to forum ads that use "Shockwave Flash Object" add-in.
The new version 10 is not working well with codeguru and vbforums.
I ended up starting from scratch and reinstalling windows xp pro, to narrow things down.

This is an absolute diagnosis, and I can repeat it with the same presented ads.
