    A counter bug (or two)

    1.
At the time of writing, a new user (SoftHacker) has made at least 3 posts here, yet the post counter says 2.

This could be temporary, but in the "What Movie are you watching Now ??..." thread, when I click the link to the last post (links to page 20 at the moment) - it seems that the correct page opens, but the navigation bar says "Page 19 of 20", and the address bar, too.

Don't know if this would be useful, but, usually what happens with new member' posts is that they have to be moderated, or Approved if you may. Sometimes though, when a post hasn't been approved yet and that causes his / her postcount to remain static. I've seen this situations too, where the count does not increment as often as it should

Yes, this is an old (yet not ancient) thread, but the issue because of which it was started in the first place appears to still exist: I just wanted to leave a post in the "Song" thread, but whatever I clicked, in the forum section index page or these navigation boxes at the top or bottom right of the thread display, I was unable to navigate to the actual end of the thread. No matter what I tried, eventually I had to post blindly.

Has this already been addressed in some way?

There is a small bug in the topic post counter... It only really rears it's head in those 100's of posts topics..

when posts are deleted, either by the poster or by a mod, they are not really deleted, but simply marked as such.. (Moderators and admin can still view them)..

So when 15 or more posts are 'Deleted' that is one page worth that is no longer visible..

Thing is that the page calculator uses the total posts and not the total viewable posts so it will list page #'s for posts that the normal user cannot view...
so while the Song thread has 181 pages of posts, you as a normal user can only see 178 pages worth of posts...

It's an easy fix, but often not realy worth the effort as it does not prevent you from seeing all that you're allowed to see...

(And if your wondering why I know all this... I've been working on my own Forum code for DNN, and had a similar problem, which i did sort out.)

Ahh this one is actually easier to explain...

The Original topic was probably posted in the wrong forum, and in one where post's do not count towards your total.. (ChitChat, Test Area, etc) A moderator then moved the topic to the correct area, However this does not automatically add it to the Users total ..

GremlinSA, ah, your post #4 pretty much explains the thing. Thanks. It also matches/explains the observation I made in the meantime that, unlike what I claimed in post #3, it actually is possible to navigate to the end of the thread, that just isn't properly reflected in these navigation boxes.

Given the fact that this only happens to threads that consist of hundreds of posts and in which lots of posts have been deleted, I can pretty much live with the bug. I'd probably have marked this thread [RESOLVED] now, but it's not my thread...
