    Lol

Thanks for posting this, I must say the beep is noisy- how does one deactivate it?

Almost gave me a heart attack when scrolling the mousewheel every time.

It'd be fun to use it for musical chairs, C# C and F# are valid programming languages and notes.

To see this driver you have to open device manager then click on View > Show hidden devices. Then under Non-Plug and Play Drivers you’ll see “Beep.” This is the driver that runs your beep. Right click on it.
    Click disable.

I was getting a message that the driver was blocked.
However I was not booting from CD as my link described.

I will try again from BartPE -like CD, and post the results.
This could resolve it, or squash it.
Does this SYS replacement method even work on 64-bit Windows? Regarding this solution, no one ever mentions the 32-bit or 64-bit OS type.

I assume you need a sys file that matches the bit of the os.
I could not get the xp 32 bit beep file, to work on win 7 64 bit enterprise.

My xp 64 bit os system fails to setup from CD(for some unknown reason),
so I cannot provide an image of the beep.sys for 64 bit xp.
Maybe someone has xp 64 bit, to try the method with.
If successful, please post the file.

Hmm, I think that 64-bit XP doesn't even have a beep:
Eventually because of the lack of hardware to communicate with, support for Beep was dropped in Windows Vista and Windows XP 64-Bit Edition.

Re: Guru challenge (seriously!): beep in Win7 64bit

Support for the older beep driver was dropped, and a new driver created.
The beep now comes out of the speakers, if a sound card is installed.

So, yes there is still a beep.sys driver within the device manager, and it may be swappable on windows 7. Perhaps service pack 1 no longer allows the swap, or perhaps some hardware is not capable of the swap.

If the beep is redirected to the external speakers, in 64-bit Windows, then in that the case, I am not going to even bother.

Even the VB6 BEEP command comes out the laptop speakers.

Well Hannes, considering I learned a large amount from you over the years, you need not be so humble.

Re: Guru challenge (seriously!): beep in Win7 64bit

    Hi all Gurus,
I know this is an old thread, and I am new trying to play with beep.sys and not so knowledgeable about drivers.
I have a program that I need to work with (unfortunately I cannot change it...), and I need to hear an alarm that is driven by beep.sys into my bluetooth headset (right now in Windows 8, I hear it in the laptop speakers, and a very low ticking-like sound in the headset).

My pc is running on Windows 8.1, and I have tried all tricks and advices above (Larry's method, trying to start a second beep service wit beepxp.sys (ref solution found here: http://www.waldbauer.com/tmp/reference.php?).

At the end, I was always able to get the new beep.sys file to be used, but all I got from these solutions is that the alarm would not even ring in the notebook speakers anymore. So I am back to beginning.

I read that this could be an issue with delay for processing sounds, but I just don't know what to do to check that and do some testing...

    Help!!!
