Specific exception for JPG GDI+ integer underflow
Hey everyone,
I'm a senior student in computer science working an internship at the moment. My company recently created an image conversion application for a client. The application takes a folder of JPG or TIFF images and converts them all into three different sizes and then places the original images into a Processed Images folder. The program is not my original code, but I've been asked to solve this current problem.
The issue I'm having recently came up when the client attempted to convert some images to JPG with Irfanview (a free image conversion tool). While attempting to convert the images with our software afterwards, they kept receiving an error message. I have tracked this message down to what I believe is an integer underflow issue with the GDI+ jpeg handler but I can't find any information on how to catch such an exception. I've been searching for a couple days and have been unsuccessful in finding anything specific relating to this issue in C# exceptions. The exception we currently catch, which caught this vulnerability, is a System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException. However, this exception was originally intended to report if the Processed Images directory was moved or deleted during conversion.
Are there any specific C# exceptions relating to this security vulnerability? We're already catching another, fairly general exception in the same area this occurs, so I need one kind of specific. I'm new to the C# and .NET development scene and still learning, so please forgive me if I'm overlooking the obvious.
I would post code specifics but it's my employer's code and I do not want to post their code without permission to do so. Thank you for any help you can provide,
Jake

Sounds like the problem is in the freeware converter they used.
