    Question Compression algorithms

Is there any starting tutorials for creating your own compression algorithms?

Wiki info is probably a good starting point for some general info.

Compression algorithms are not for the faint hearted... are you sure what you are getting yourself into ?

    Arrow Re: Compression algorithms

would it follow something like this

    FindFirstFile
    FindNextFile

    File found say

    ReadFileScatter into an array

Compress the arrays a bit at a time using the LZW algortihms

    Write file

    the new compressed file?

Probably not, since LZW is an already-known compression algorithm, and thus is not consistent with your goal of "creating your own compression algorithms"

Incidentally, why did you include mention of FIndFirst/NextFile? Perhaps your original question might more accurately be "how to use LZW or other loseless compression algorithm to compress a directory/folder?"

So basically to create your own compression algorithm you need to study how current ones work hence work from them? Do major game companys have there own compression algroithms like Steam games

No, they don't. They may have their own file formats, but nobody is going to research and create a new compression algorithm when so many good ones already exist.
