    Unhappy Informix JDBC Performance

I have some time working with Informix (IDS V 9.4), we made an application using Java Swing, so we used JDBC , but I have realized that the performance of Jdbc es a lot slower that using the commands of sql in odbc or directly in dbaccess, for example executing :
    stmt.execute("BEGIN WORK")
it should work the same but it doesn't and BEGIN WORK works much better, so I think that jdbc sets some parameters by default but I don't know wich ones.
Does anyone have some experience with this and could tell me what I should do?

Accessing from command prompt is always fast in my opinion. you can get better performance form JDBC by using PreparedStatement, in case if you are not using already, doing batch inserts or update , etc. not sure if it helps but something to think if you are not implemented already.
