    A reliable av software?

Hello. My computer is infected with a thing called Windows Accelerator Pro. It looks like an antivirus program, but I'm sure it's a virus, because I did not install it and I do not have any other antivirus protection on my PC. I thought I wouldn't need one, but I guess I was wrong. I tried to deal with this thing on my own and I searched for some help in Google. I found several removal guides and I did exactly as they said(mostly I followed those steps http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-remo...-removal-guide). Now the hard part is to decide which antivirus program to download. They are so many.. how do I choose a good one, that is actually helping? Every removal guide ends with a suggestion, but how to tell if it is a good software? Can anyone recommend something? Thank you.

Kaspersky is one of the best non-free.
AVG and Avast are the better ranking free solutions.

Different test reports have different recommendations as to the 'best' and different versions from the same supplier also can have different results - the latest version may have a worse rating than a previous version! IMO Avast is the best free solution with Kaspersky as the best non-free. Note that Kaspersky's interface is not the easiest to navigate once you start to get into its configuration options. Norton and Eset are pretty good alternatives to Kaspersky.

None. If you're infected, you'll need to wipe the hard drive, re-install OS and updates, and then get an AV. Microsoft has a good one that's free.

I use Nod32 for such cases. Its performance and efficiency are good enough.
