Speech synthesis with the internal speaker?

I am programming an old-school dungeon crawler and thought it would be cool to get the pc's internal speaker in on the action. While Ive used the BEEP function to nice effect for generating music, does anyone know how I would go about getting speech out of my internal speaker?

    Thanks!

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place.
Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by
definition, not smart enough to debug it.
