Is there any way other than CRecordset to read/write database in VC++?

Sure. In case your database provides ODBC connectivity, it may be MFC CRecordset, ÀDO Recordset object or plain ODBC SQL API.
The only demerit with CRecordset is need in MFC, which means, you're not able to use it in VS express edition. Under any other circumstances ir really depends. I prefer ADO in scripting languages like JavaScript. And I had a project where I created my own extra slim wrapper over plain ODBC API. As I said, it really depends.
And now, what's wrong with CRecordset?
Best regards,
Igor

My preference is to use the ATL OLEDB Consumer classes.

Ado will be the best choice for OLEDB.
