    Python Opinions required

    Hi

My question is: Is Python a good progression from PHP?

I have been creating PHP applications for many years now and have just setup a debian server at home to develop on, I am drawn to learn Python for some reason and not sure why. I would love to learn as many languages as I can to develop my personal skills but is Python a good choice?

    Many Thanks

Good choice for what? As you say, there are many computer languages. Which additional language(s) would be best depends upon a large part what you are trying to accomplish and what are your goals.

All my code is tested (unless stated explicitly otherwise) with the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio (using the supported features of the latest standard) and is offered as examples only - not as production quality. I cannot offer advice regarding any other c/c++ compiler/IDE or incompatibilities with VS. My goals are to become a very diverse developer I would like to be able to learn many languages and to learn server management. I think it is great being able to develop dynamic websites and applications but I feel the need to diversify.

Since you do not have a specific project goal but rather a personal development goal, then Python, or indeed many other languages, would meet your requirement of broadening your skills. You may well learn server management during the course of applying Python, but in itself programming in Python does not require you to acquire such knowledge. Like PHP, Python can be used to "develop dynamic websites and applications", if you wish.
